Change

This poster designed by Shepard Fairey, seemed like a different approach to what a "normal" presidential poster would look like. The illustration of this poster has a more personal appeal than the classic "vote for____" poster, with the picture of the candidate. And the word "Progress" really has volume. "Progress" communicates persistence, dedication, and change; all those things lead to hope, in which our country definitely needs.

The theme of this year seems to be "change". In May I'll be graduating, which will be a huge change for me, because I'm 21 years old, and I've been in school for the last 18 years of my life; Today, an unexpected change happened in the Super Bowl...the only thing that was similar to us was the name "Manning"; In November, there will be a new president that will attempt to change what America has gone through for the last 8 years; and the 2008 Olympics will take place this year in Beijing, which is a country that's looking to change the outcome of what the previous olympics have shown us (the U.S. taking home the most gold medals).

I have a guerilla advertising class right now, which some people may call ambient, outdoor, or unconventional advertsing, and it has been a challenge, because the objective is to create something that people aren't use to seeing, which means I have to go outside of myself to seek inspiration from sources that I'm not used to seeking. An award-winning art director wrote (in an article that I received from one of my teachers Sal Devito, of Devito/Verdi), "...perahps when an obstacle presents itself, it may be a blessing in disguise. It could force you to do something you ordinarily wouldn't." I try to remember that everyday.

I am really impressed with with your work and the level of improvement from one of a visually inspired person to that of a person who find meaning and inspiration in the written and spoken word. Life is leaps and bounds if you dare to take the first step. dad.

Here is a little quote in the interest of change :
Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced." ~ James Baldwin

Who would have ever known that our late night talks about you creating a _________ machine (we will leave that blank in case you ever decided to create it!) would have lead you here! I really enjoyed my visit to your "place." It was (45%) short of amazing....(can't let you think you've already made it!!)
