In the latest edition of creativity magazine, Mike Shine, a creative director at Butler Shine Stern & Partners, wrote about doubling as a fine artist and an ad agency creative director. He said his painting and fine art work give him a break from his agency work, and vice versa. The last paragraph of the article read, "...after 23 years in this business, I'd even recommend that everyone else in the business find a side interest and cultivate their own alter ego."
I thought that was a great statement because most, if not all people in the creative and sports industry are professionally doing their former hobbies. So if you have a hobby, get another one. You never know if it'll become your profession; and as fun as work can be, you can't do it all day.
